Australian consumer advocacy groups are intensifying their calls for substantial reforms in the insurance industry's claims handling processes.
The Australian Consumers Insurance Lobby (ACIL) has criticised the current system, highlighting ongoing issues that compromise consumer outcomes.

ACIL points out that despite the introduction of a best practice standard for expert reports in August 2024, abuses persist, and meaningful change has yet to materialise. The organisation argues that the existing standards are insufficient and lack enforceability, leading to continued consumer harm.

In response, ACIL is advocating for the establishment of independent, publicly appointed assessors who can represent consumers during the claims process. This move aims to ensure impartiality and fairness, addressing systemic issues that have long plagued the industry.

For beauty industry professionals, these developments are particularly relevant. Navigating complex insurance claims can be daunting, and the push for reforms could lead to more transparent and equitable processes. Beauticians should stay informed about these changes to better understand their rights and the support available when dealing with insurance claims.
